FAQs

What is the selection process?

We give interested students the chance to put themselves forward for selection, following a presentation of the programme at a school assembly by Future Leaders staff.  We are currently in 10 schools in Auckland.

Students nominate themselves by completing a simple CV. This will include listing their potential and key skills and any leadership roles they have played at home, school, church or in the community.

A final selection will be made by the School Dean and Future Leaders staff. The students will have a final interview and at this point a meeting will be arranged with the successful students' caregivers. Following this meeting, selected students will officially be welcomed into the Future Leaders Programme. Both caregivers and students will sign a contract outlining the terms of acceptance, expectations etc.

What successful outcomes does the programmes have?

Our 2009 external evaluation gave us evidence of the sustained impact the programme is having for the participants;

  • The programme has a retention rate of nearly 90%
  • 88% of graduates go on to tertiary education
  • All graduates still undertake extensive community service

These positive outcomes have a ripple effect in families and ultimately serve to strengthen communities.
